MEET YOUR SUPERVISOR: This might be important especially if your supervisor has not met you by the end of the first week.
PICK UP A LECTURE LIST FROM THE FACULTY: Try not to miss classes, as some are compulsory and attendance might be recorded. It’s also good in the interest of wider learning and all that.
EXPLORE YOUR SUBJECT LIBRARY: This is all predicated on the fact that you are not really going to be working for the first couple of weeks at least. It’s always good to know your relevant library and how to use them.
READ THE CHUNKY GREY BOOK: The examinations regulations book with all the (un) necessary information. Most of it is not relevant. Read it especially if you wish to understand how you will be assessed. If you can’t understand it, don’t worry you will join the scores of oxford students who use it as a doorstop.
HANDY INFORMATION: Grocery/Food Shops: The two main supermarkets where you can buy most of the everyday stuff are: Sainsbury’s: ‘Local’ Sainsbury’s is located near the junction of Cornmarket street and George street (in between Debenham’s and Border’s). Items in this store are slightly expensive but it stays open until 10 PM in the night. The bigger Sainsbury’s is located in the Westgate center. It stays open until 7.30 PM on the week days.
Tesco’s: Located on the Cowley Road, you will find things quite cheaper in this store. Also stays open until midnight.
Other supermarkets are Marks and Spencer (Queen’s street), and CO-OP (Jericho).
