Mani Shankar Aiyar will deliver the inaugural lecture of the '60 Years of the Indian Republic' Lecture Series today (Monday, 22nd March - 5 pm, Lecture Room XI, Brasenose College).

Amar is currently a first year Ph.D. student in Life Sciences at Oxford Brookes University. He is a part of the "Cell Systems Modelling Group" (CSMG) in the Life Sciences department headed by Prof. David Fell at Brookes. He has a masters degree in Life Sciences (Spl.: Neurobiology) from Sophia College, Mumbai University and a bachelor's degree in Life Sciences & Biochemistry from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai University. Before coming to Oxford in April 2009, he worked for a systems biology company - Cellworks Pvt. Ltd. based in Bangalore. During his two year tenure in Cellworks, he carried out several responsibilities including R&D and technical marketing. Before Cellworks,for a brief period of time, Amar worked with a bioinformatics company at Indore. Amar works in the area of "systems biology" or "mathematical biology". His research involves using mathematical modelling methods to investigate on the systemic properties and behaviour of biochemical reaction kinetics under various physiological conditions. As the Events & Talks Secretary, he will be involved in organization and planning for all OIS endeavours.
